Babbs is not one of those prudes like the woman in her town who demanded that a local university professor remove a reproduction mini-statue of the Venus de Milo from his office. Babbs is not offended by the fund raiser calendar done in the nude by the Canadian women’s Biathlon team, or by Benelli’s beautiful Legacy campaign featuring a tattooed, nude woman’s body, but she draws the line when certain editors of a powerhouse outdoors magazine snicker at Booth Babes, exploit them and make fun of their lack of knowledge about firearms.

My pal NorCal Cazadora sent me an ad for camo underwear, and railed on just a little bit about the advertiser proclaiming this is “the best looking camo ever!” I looked at it, and its online sales flyer touts a Weber’s Naked North Pink Camo Baby Doll Set and Hatchie Bottom Men’s Lounge Pants.

It’s Friday. Let’s take a deep breath and not pop a yoga move. Instead, let’s get another cup of coffee or tea, settle in at the computer chair and head over in cyberspace to Bob White’s introspective blog at Whitefish Studio online, where he describes a walk to a stream to collect watercress with his four-year-old daughter and in the process, discovers the importance of being in the moment. Babbs in the Woods recommends that you read and then, subscribe to Bob’s weekly updates.

It seems some women are paying good money to run and even swim in the mud. We outdoor gals have been trudging through mud and worse for years now, and that got Babbs to thinking about its appeal.

“More pink camouflage in the woods this year!” That headline caught Babbs’ eye and well, you know she felt a blog coming on about that topic.

A recent field dressing tutorial in the woods got Babbs to thinking about the whole field-to-table connection that we aren’t doing such a great job of passing along to our kids.

We outdoor types believe in solar drying systems, aka clotheslines. Who has not strung a line between two trees or on a cabin’s front porch, in order to dry hunting clothes or fishing duds? We’re on an energy saving kick here at The WON and Babbs waxes on about clotheslines at deer camp and birds dive-bombing her lines and her kid crashing through the sheets with his bicycle.

Babbs got to thinking while in her tree stand about conservation and all that, and you might be surprised at what she figured the 1.1 million women in this country are doing when they hunt and don’t use indoor plumbing.

Let’s face it. Camo is cool. You see it everywhere, including underwear. But there are times when it’s not cool. Forget Miss Manners – this just makes common sense. If roughly 20 percent of the public is pro-hunting and 20 percent is anti-hunting, then we really need to impress the 60 percent that hasn’t made up their minds yet, so Babbs has compiled a few rules for and against wearing camo in public this hunting season.

Christina Holden steps into the woods today with a guest post about her work with Paralyzed Veterans of America and its Outdoor Recreation Heritage Fund. Christina and many others support our troops by taking them back outside, to start the healing process from within.

She thought she was sooooo organized, getting all those deer tags early and having extra keys made for her ATV. Well not so fast, Missy Babbs in the Woods. You still have to account for losing those aforementioned items and also, a near-tip-over on an ATV and a cherry limeade in your lap.

It’s been a year, since we started The WON and also a few days shy of Gerald Scott’s fall from a tree stand in southwest Missouri. Babbs used to drive around in her Suburban on her way to a hunt with a gun-of-the-season in tow, along with Muck boots and yes, a pair of dowsing (er, divining) rods.
