DIY Altoids Smalls Spices Kit

Rogue Preparedness created a genius way to make a spices kit for backpacking, preparedness and camping. We think it’s also a perfect way to bring along your favorite spices when vacationing in a condo or Airbnb. ~ The Editors

One day Husband said, “I want to carry some spices, but I don’t want to carry all these spice bottles.”

So he went to work to figure out a way to carry a bunch of one use spices without having to carry all of the bulky bottles or a bunch of ziploc bags.

I’m sure this has been done before, but boy we sure do feel clever! This is a lightweight and effective way of carrying multiple spices right in your pocket (or in a tiny little corner of your backpack or cookset).

Here’s how to make an extremely easy Altoids smalls spice kit:

Gather your supplies:

• Lighter
• Pliers
• Empty Altoids small
• Marker
• Straws
• Spices

Get started:

1. Cut the straw into about 2 inch sections.
2. Seal one end by heating the end with a lighter then using pliers to clamp down on the hot plastic.
3. Fill it with any spice you want.
4. Shake the spices so they’re at the bottom, sealed end of the straw bit, then seal the other end as you did in step #2.
5. Use the market to write what spice it is on the outside.
6. Place inside of the Altoids.
7. Repeat steps 1-6 with as many spices as you’d like.

This project took less than an hour.

To use, simply cut open one end and pour it out! Place the opened/used plastic bit back inside of the Altoids and replace it when you get home.
