GLOCK has made mounting a red dot on your pistol much easier with their MOS series of pistols. The GLOCK MOS series includes four mounting plates to accommodate a variety of optics. Mounting a pistol red dot can be relatively easy when using the appropriate tools and hardware. Below, I’ll explain what equipment is needed, and how to mount the red dot to the pistol.
Required Equipment:
Before beginning this task, perform a safety check on the pistol to ensure it is properly cleared out.
Next, field strip the firearm and set everything but the slide off to the side out of the way.
Remove the GLOCK MOS factory-installed cover plate using a T-10 Torx bit.
Once the cover plate has been removed, clean the mounting area with a lint-free cloth to ensure that it is debris-free.
Next, select the correct adapter plate for the optic’s footprint. Refer to the mounting plate kit instructions for compatible red dots and their corresponding mounting plates.
Perform a test fit before mounting the plate to the slide. Test fit the optic and the screws to confirm that they do not protrude from the bottom of the mounting plate.
After confirming proper fit, place the mounting plate on the slide with the marking side up.
Apply medium-strength thread locker to the two small screws included in the mounting plate kit. Install the screws and torque to 13.3 in-lbs.
It’s time to mount the red dot to the plate according to the optic manufacturer’s instructions.
As a reminder, use only medium strength thread locker and torque to specifications and let the tread locker cure. Then reassemble the firearm; you are ready to hit the range. Additionally, witness marks can be applied to serve as an instant visual confirmation that the fasteners are not coming loose.
There are many benefits to adding a red dot to a pistol. Hopefully this simplified process will help get you back out on the shooting range in no time. For further information, be sure to check out this previous post, which goes into more depth on this subject.
