Review: PSE Uprising Compound Bow

Pyramyd Air sent me the PSE Uprising Compound Bow to review. Why might an archer choose a compound bow? A compound bow allows an archer to take accurate shots at greater distances because it doesn’t rely so much on physical strength to produce a greater velocity. Another advantage is the customization options. Before I customize this one, I want to get to know it first, and for that, I can’t wait!

The PSE Uprising compound bow is lightweight, easy to operate and extremely adjustable, which means it’ll grow with me – or, in the case that one day, age relieves me from the strength I once had and I find it impossible to draw, I can dial it back and still do what I love! Not to mention, it’s affordable.

Draw Length and Weight Chart

Along with the bow came instructions on how to set your draw length from 14 inches to 30 inches and the draw weight from 12 to 72 pounds. I wasn’t about to try these adjustment tasks on my own, so I opted to let a professional help. I took it to my local archery shop, where they have the know-how and the equipment to do it right the first time.

These items come with the bow:

  • Three Pin Sight
  • Arrow Rest
  • Five Arrow Quiver
  • Six Inch Stabilizer
  • Bow Sling
  • Allen Wrenches for adjustments

The PSE Uprising is available with a left or right-handed riser, as well as these finishes:

  • Black
  • Mossy Oak Country (I have this one)
  • Muddy Girl Camo

Bow Specs:

  • Total Weight 3.2 pounds
  • Brace Height: 6.625 inches
  • Axle to Axle: 30 inches
  • ATA/IBO Speed: 310-302 FPS
  • Let-off: 70%
  • Mass Weight: 3.2 pounds.
  • Draw Length Range: 14 inches to 30 inches
  • Draw Weights: 12 to 72 pounds
  • Limb Bolt Turns: 8
  • Cam: Up
  • Shipped at: 27-inch draw length

The first thing the shop associate did was make sure all the Allen screws were tight. Then, he measured my reach and determined the best draw length for me (25 inches) and the draw weight (35 pounds) to get me started.

With a quick session at the shop’s indoor 20-yard range to ensure everything was operating properly – including the shooter – I felt ready to get to my range and sling some arrows to get to know this apparatus.

Accoutrements for a Compound Bow

Now that you know the aesthetics and set up, I’d like to dive into what it takes to operate this bow. It’s best to shoot this compound bow with a release because it decreases the possibility of errors by giving a quick consistent straight-forward motion. Note, the release, arrows and field tips are not included with the bow. If you don’t have everything you need, here’s what I chose to pair with mine.

Big Shot Pro Hunter Big Buck Archery Target

On the Range with the PSE Uprising Compound Bow

With the Uprising set up for me, I headed to a range and set up appropriate archery targets. I used the Big Shot Pro Hunter Double Duty Buck Target with an MSRP of  $229.99.

I got in my set position and took a deep breath. Before I entered the draw phase, I exhaled about 20 percent of my lung capacity, then while I held my breath, I began the draw phase. In a push-pull fashion, I drew the string back, keeping my finger behind the trigger. Once I settled into my anchor points and saw a perfect view of the heart of the deer target through the peep sight, lining it up with the top pin on my three-pin sight, I placed my trigger finger on the release and gently squeezed. After the release, I finished my exhale.

Immediately, I am impressed with the point of impact. I believe the ease of operation of this bow will  make it possible for anyone to enter the archery world with confidence. I shot the bow for about an hour.

When an archer accomplishes the proper operation of the Uprising and appropriate form, the results should be nearly perfect to perfect.

Shot Results Deer Target

If your passion is to send arrow after arrow into a simple archery target for hours at a time, you can dial the draw weight back on this bow to allow countless draws without tiring. If you’re gearing up to send a broadhead into your desired target game animal, you should consider increasing the draw weight to get an appropriate velocity and with that, the energy to accomplish the most efficient shot.

PSE Uprising Compound Bow

After spending time on the range with the PSE Uprising Compound Bow , I heartily recommend it for both beginners and experienced archers. It’s also affordable, starting at $399.99. If you’re on the edge about archery, this bow is a good one to dip your toes in with to see if you like it.
