Sign up for NRA Pistol Shooting Instructor Course — for women, by women

FAIRFAX, Va. –To All Female NRA members:  This is the last opportunity for female shooters who want to share their Knowledge, Skills and Attitude by becoming an NRA Certified Pistol Instructor.

NRA Women’s Programs is conducting an NRA Pistol Shooting Instructor Course, taught by Women, for Women. Conducted in conjunction with the 2011 National Rifle Association Annual Meetings and Exhibits, this course promises to be an exciting event.

This is an excellent opportunity to become part of the Female Pistol Instructor cadre, to add diversity to an existing training team by recruiting more women trainers, and become a teacher for the thousands of women who are learning to shoot every year.

The course will be conducted Friday, April 29 thru Sunday, May 1, 2011. Friday and Saturday will be held at the David L. Lawrence Convention Center from 8:00 am to 4:30 pm. Sunday will be from 9:00 am to 1 pm at the Allegheny Country Rifle Club in Pittsburgh. Transportation will be provided from the Convention Center to the range.

Pre-registration is required. The $250 course fee includes all course materials, range use, firearms and ammunition, and transportation to and from the range, along with the first year’s certification fee. Eligibility requirements include: a solid background in firearm safety and pistol shooting skills acquired through previous firearm training or previous shooting experience; compete familiarity with each type of pistol action; completion and submission of the pre-course questionnaire; successful completion of the pre-course qualification, conducted at the range on Sunday; and a minimum score of 90% on the Basic Pistol Shooting Course exam.

During the course, successful candidates will have demonstrated solid and safe pistol handling skills and successfully completed class presentations and qualification exercises. Instructor candidates must receive the endorsement of the NRA Training Counselor conducting the course to become NRA-certified pistol instructors. Should any candidate not fulfill all of the course requirements, the candidate may be accepted as an NRA-Assistant Instructor until all such requirements are completed satisfactorily.

Due to the size of the class, it will be necessary to keep lunch and breaks on a strict schedule. Students should bring their own lunches/snacks with them. Soft drinks will be provided.

The course is limited to 20 students, and the applications will be accepted on a first-come, first-served basis. Successful applicants will be confirmed by NRA Women’s Program Staff.
