Ladies, Let’s Go Fishing Gulf Coast University: Anglers Net Skills & Fish

FORT MYERS, FL – May, 2021- – Women and a few lucky men from all around Florida united to learn fishing skills at the “Ladies, Let’s Go Fishing!” (LLGF) Gulf Coast University May 15-16 at Bass Pro Shops, Fort Myers, FL. The University offered education, fishing skill practice and an optional fishing trip.

The “No Yelling School of Fishing” provided classroom presentations by Capt. Jon Fetter/Inshore Fishing, Capt. Debbie Hanson/Fishing Basics and also conservation and Best Times to Fish. Skill practice for knot tying, fly casting, spin casting, live shrimp usage and net casting was conducted by the speakers. 

On Sunday, participants embarked on their chosen fishing adventures from three boats, catching or releasing more than 100 snook, snapper, redfish, sea trout and other species.

Ft. Myers University Fishing Report – Half Day, Sunday Every boat caught or released fish, with three boats, participants caught more than 100 fish. “Caught” could signify either landing or releasing.

Capt. Brian Lynch Sea Shift Charters: Fishing with live pilchards, ladies released 15 snook 18 to 31 inches, a 13 inch gag grouper and a 20 inch trout. They improved their casting skills. Pam Ford, Weston FL released a large snook and learned how to retrieve a fish wrapped around a piling. They also learned how to side-cast to skip baits into the mangroves. They lost six large fish.  

Charter boat 2: Fishing near Pine Island with crab pieces for bait and artificial lures for trout, participants caught a total of 45 fish. They released 30 sea trout ranging from 14 to 22 inches plus a 26 inch redfish. Janine Neuschwander, Cape Coral, FL caught her first fish of her life, a trout. Her husband, Tim caught a 12 lb. 28 inch black drum. 

Capt. Jon Fetter, Catching the Cure Charters: Fishing in Estero Bay with shrimp, participants released 44 fish including 20 catfish, 20 ladyfish, 3 Sea trout and a puffer fish. They improved their casting and learned how to release fish.
