Outdoor writer Lisa Metheny and I got stood up at the pier recently in Alabama. We showed up to fish, but found out after searching for about 30 minutes that our guide had left early. His name was John. There must have been 100 guys that morning at the Gulf State Park Pier and some of them had homemade wheeled contraptions that held several types of rods, along with a cooler, tackle boxes, repair kits and drink holders. We wound up talking to some of the locals and leaving without fishing.
Since we never found our “John,” we decided to scope out some souvenir shops along the strip. You’ll see what we found in the little slide show below.
