This week on Winchester Deadly Passion host Melissa Bachman heads to South Carolina for one of her favorite pastimes – alligator hunting. And she’s not alone! She brought her mom, Karen, with for her first gator hunt. Does this spell double trouble for southern gators? “Gator hunting is a very social thing – you are enjoying the time and having fun with others at night, or during the day. I brought my brother before to South Carolina for a gator hunt and he arrowed a monster gator. So I knew I had to bring my mom,” said Bachman.
“I never expected to go alligator hunting, but I told Melissa I will try!” said Karen Bachman. “We were in the swamps at night with snakes and other creatures…this wasn’t on my bucket list to do, but Melissa was right, it was tons of fun.”
To prepare for the trip, Melissa had Karen practice drawing back her bow multiple times to work up her strength and stamina. “When gator hunting, you will see several gators, which you will shoot at – but you will also miss quite a bit. I told mom to set her bow at 40 pounds and work up to shooting that weight over and over and over again,” stated Melissa.
After getting over her fear of snakes – and falling off the boat – Karen and Melissa were armed with nuisance tags for gators, which meant they could hunt private waters versus public waters. Tune in to see all the gator action on this new episode exclusively airing on Sportsman Channel.
