LARAMIE, Wyo. – The Wyoming Women’s Antelope Hunt will hold its fourth annual hunt Oct. 6 – 9, 2016, at the Ranch at Ucross in northeastern Wyoming.
The Wyoming Women’s Foundation created the hunt in 2013 to promote camaraderie and mentorship through hunting while raising awareness of and funds for the foundation’s mission to improve the economic self-sufficiency of women in the state. So far the event has raised more than $200,000 for grants and special projects to help women and girls across Wyoming. Female hunters of all experience levels are encouraged to attend the weekend hunt which emphasizes safe and responsible hunting. Typically, more experienced hunters are paired with women who have less hunting experience. Each pair of hunters is assigned to one licensed guide and is provided access to scenic, private and public lands surrounding Ucross.
Hunters come from across Wyoming and the nation to participate in the all-women’s hunt. Special guest hunters have included retired Wyoming Supreme Court Justice Marilyn Kite, Wyoming State Superintendent Jillian Balow, Jana Waller from “Skull Bound TV” on the Sportsman Channel, Women’s Outdoor News (WON) Editor Barbara Baird, 2013 Ms. Wheelchair USA Ashlee Lundvall, and Julie Golob, captain of Smith & Wesson’s highly successful shooting team. Of the 40 total hunters in 2015, 36 harvested antelope, 11 for the first time.
On Friday, October 7 the event will host a fundraising dinner. The dinner is open to the public and includes live and silent auctions. Last year attendees to the dinner included local elected officials, legislators, and Wyoming Game and Fish staff and commissioners. Governor Mead visited and spoke with hunters before the Saturday evening awards ceremony in 2015. Tickets for the auction dinner are available on the hunt website.
The Wyoming Women’s Foundation is seeking sponsors for the hunt. Each sponsor, based on the level of their contribution, will have the opportunity to invite women to attend and/or hunt at the event. The foundation is also seeking dinner sponsors and in-kind donations for its fundraising auction on Oct. 7
