ACCOKEEK, MD — Team Benelli 3-Gun shooters racked up impressive finishes recently in two major tournaments. During the 2014 Western Regional 3-Gun Nation (3GN) Series, held at the Pro Gun Club in Boulder City, NV, Benelli 3-Gun shooters achieved top honors, which included Taran Butler who took first place in Open Division and Keith Garcia who finished first in Tactical Optics. At the Pikes Peak Shotgun Championships held in Colorado Springs, CO, congratulations go to James Casanova who won the Standard Division (Auto), Jansen Jones took the Standard Manual Division (Pump) and Janna Reeves was High Lady Standard Division (Auto).
The Pikes Peak Shotgun Championship was a one-day event, featuring ten stages and required approximately 180 rounds of birdshot and slugs. Divisions included Open, Auto and Pump.
“The Shotgun Championship tested a wide array of skills with the shotgun, from long range slug shots to fast incoming and outgoing aerial clay targets,” said Jansen Jones. “In order win this event, the shooter had to be a master in all aspects of shotgunning. After 10 stages of fire, I was proud to finish on top and be the inaugural champion of this event in pump shotgun division.”
When all the scores from all divisions (open, auto and pump) were combined, Jones achieved top-ten overall with a pump shotgun beating over 100 other competitors with semi-automatics. He attributes the key to his success was his Benelli SuperNova, which he says, “…ran flawlessly and shot true all day long.”
The 3-Gun National Western Regional featured nine stages of fire with a wide variety of challenges presented for the competitors. The 3-Gun Nation Regional Series are run under the 2014 3GN Club Series Rules set. This means that the rules, safety procedures and scoring are exactly the same at each of the four Regional events.
“We encountered everything from aerial targets and steel spinners combined with swinging platforms, duck blinds, and a run through a field of cactus,” Janna Reeves described. “This match left no room for equipment errors – my M2 ran through birdshot and slugs with equal reliability and helped me take High Lady and a top 10% finish among the men.”
Keith Garcia won not only the South West Regional Championship, but he also won the 3 Gun Nation Pro Series match. “The Pro match was shotgun heavy with a lot of fast and dirty handgun shooting,” Garcia explained. “The Regional match had a 35-round shotgun stage, which was a tough challenge. The match had lots of opportunities to rack up penalties and kill your score. I enjoyed both matches and was fortunate to have gear that ran and shot great.”
