Teri Cindric Wins the Battle on the Bayou
March 15, 2014, West Monroe, LA — The first stop of the Lady Bass Anglers Association Tour is now in the history books and Tennessee Angler Teri Cindric claims the victory with a two day total of 16.46 lbs that she managed to catch by remaining focused and rolling with the changes on the Ouachita River in West Monroe, LA. With day two beginning with more stable conditions, a sustained water level and an approaching full moon bringing the bass shallow as they complete the pre-spawn cycle. The hard work and determination these ladies have put forth on the waters of the Ouachita River and its oxbows and bayous have paid off either with a check or an education in fishing a river system in unstable conditions. Teri proved she had what it takes to break the rivers code and dial into what the Ouachita bass were looking for. With an impressive weigh in yesterday she had a chance to win the event. Cindric had this to say about today’s win, “I had a pretty tough practice, I finally figured out what they would bite, these little 3/16 – 5/16 finesse jigs depending on the wind, these are called “Rescue Jigs”, in a color called “Smashing Pumpkin’” that is actually green pumpkin, craw and orange. I think the orange really stood out in the stained water. I paired it with the Zoom Speed Craw and I dipped the ends of the claws in chartreuse and I think that really made a difference in the muddy water.”
Second place was wrapped up by default as day one leader Pam Martin-Wells was bumped down without bringing any fish to the scales. Yesterday’s five fish limit of 12.48 lbs. held the second position as well as the Phoenix Boats Big Fish that earned Wells extra cash at the final weigh in. This accomplishment was not an easy task according to local anglers who admit this river is a tough bite this time of the year. Only Wells and two other anglers delivered limits on day one which is rare since these ladies are among the top female anglers in North America. Coming in third place was Lisa Johnson who weighed in a two day total of 7 fish weighing 12 lbs. Followed by Lynda Gessner who scaled 6.77 lbs to move into fifth place.
Co-anglers Noella McLaurin and Diana Uebelhack finished by tying for first place, each bringing two fish on day one with an identical total of 4.16 lbs to the scales. The co-angler competition was fierce as the ladies on the back of the boats worked just as hard as their boaters to bring a three fish limit to the scales each day proving that they too can tame the bayou bass despite the changing conditions of the Ouachita River. The next place was handed to Bonnie Ward with her day two limit with a weigh in of 3.5 lbs. These ladies not only impressed but gained the respect of some of the area’s best local fishermen.
The ladies of the LBAA have once again pulled through another tough tournament delivering impressive weigh in totals with positive attitudes and confident smiles. Their next stop will be on Old Hickory Lake in Hendersonville, Tennessee May 2 – 3.
