It’s Team WON vs. Team HERCAMOSHOP (HCS) as Barbara Baird, Britney Starr and Marti Davis square up against Shelly Ray, Mia Anstine and Becky Lou Lacock to see which group can bag the biggest gobbler this spring. Team WON will be hunting in Missouri and Team HCS in Nebraska during the week of April 15. Each group has been given a Little Runt (L.R.) decoy to help draw in the big boys.
Check out the Little Runt in action:
Little Runt turkey decoy giveaway:
Team WON needs your help to name our L.R.! Below are three name choices, one each from Barb, Brit and Marti — in no particular order. To enter the contest, just leave a comment with the name you like most, one lucky participant will win a Little Runt of his or her very own.
I see him as a RORY because he is regal, and red headed and kingly. He knows he will be the chosen one — even if it means getting the snot kicked out of him. Being of Irish and Gaelic origin and meaning “red king,” this name suits this runt because of his obvious bold attitude. He will prevail.
BUSTER the Runt — Buster is there to try to bust up the courtship of the big ‘ol gobbler and his lovesick hens. But, we all know when that gobbler comes strutting in he has one thing on his mind … well, two things. But, first he wants to bust this scrawny Runt of a jake that is trying to steal his hens.
Leonardo (Lenny for short) — The name Leonardo means “lion strength or lion-hearted.” Lion strength will definitely be necessary when LENNY goes rounds with the gobblers this spring. And, let’s face it, he will need to be as handsome as Leonardo DiCaprio to pull the hens away from the gobblers before he gets beat up. π Vote for Lenny the Little Runt!
The contest will run from Monday, April 1 through Friday, April 5. One lucky participant will win their own Little Runt turkey decoy (winner will be drawn using random.org) and we will also pick the name for our Little Runt based on the name that receives the most votes (comments). Winners will be announced in our weekly newsletter. Sign up at womensoutdoornews.com

Lenny… based on the description that would make him tough, yet cuddly. The perfect man.
Lenny, because the best Stevie Ray Vaughn song ever is “Lenny” and women SWOON over it.
Buster! Those toms will be thinking “listen here, Buster……” when they see him messing with the chicks. Not to mention that you’ll be “Bust”-ing gobblers with the little runt.
BTW – I love the video clip above! Made me more anxious for Turkey Season to get here! Sadly, I’ve never seen gobblers attack a decoy, or even peck at them, maybe this year! π
I’d go with Buster. However, I think Jacob would be a good name (get it….Jake???) ha ha.
Buster would be my choice.
But if we were picking names from scratch I’d go with “Worm”. I mean he looks like a worm with a turkey head. Seems fitting. Plus you call someone sneaky or someone deceiving you don’t like a little worm. Which is exactly how you’d want gobblers to feel about Worm. I mean Buster.
Thanks Katherine, but Casanova isn’t one of our options. We have it narrowed down between Lenny, Rory and Buster. I know you’re a rebel, but you have to follow the rules on this one. π
I agree with Tammy – he would be a good Hoss. Mind you, I went out with a guy I nicknamed Hoss and he had a turkey neck so maybe that’s why.
LOL. Now I’m trying to envision a guy with a turkey neck. Unfortunately, Hoss isn’t an option that we have for the name. We are choosing between Lenny, Rory and Buster. Let us know which one you would choose.
Buster gets my vote…Buster will break up a few courtships and bust a few beards
I see him as a “Rory”. But I also would have called him either “Strutter” or ” “Hoss”.
Has to be “Lenny”. He needs all the strength he can get to get to all the hens out there!
Hi Teri,
Thank you for your participation. We are asking everyone to choose between Lenny, Rory and Buster as the possible names. Let us know which one you would pick. Thanks!
Buster…cause he is gonna get busted all to heck and take it like a….turkey
Buster….. he’ll send that boss gobbler to turkey heaven.
