Wanna Win WON? How about Julie Golob’s signed Smith & Wesson pink ball cap?

It’s time to kick off another year full of Win WON opportunities, and wowee . . . we are thrilled that Julie Golob and Smith & Wesson are first up – with three, yes three, pink Smith & Wesson ball caps. These caps are identical to the one Team Captain Julie Golob wears when she competes.

All nice and fresh and one thing missing -- an autograph by Julie Golob, Capt. of Smith & Wesson's shooting team.

And could it get any better? Why, of course! Julie will autograph each ball cap at the Smith & Wesson booth during SHOT Show. Three readers will win specially signed, pink Smith & Wesson ball caps – all nice and fresh and ready to roll with them to the range.

Wanna win WON? Just tell us below in the comments’ section about one of your goals for shooting in 2012. What do you want to accomplish on the firing range this year?

Deadline is Friday, Jan. 13, at midnight – your time.

See Julie’s SHOT Show schedule. Whew.

Editor’s note: Special thanks to photographer Paul Hyland for the photo. According to Julie, Paul does “amazing” work featuring women in the shooting sports. Check out his website. Winners will be chosen by Random.org.

For 2012, Julie and other women shooters have inspired me to not only try to improve my self-defensive shooting skills , also start competitive shooting as well. I have some health issues and disability, but I am not a quitter. I plan to train hard, learn and have fun. I would love to have one of Julie’s signed hats for inspiration, if possible. Thanks to all for giving us such good examples to follow.

    • Barbara Baird says: February 3, 2012 at 9:38 am

You’re welcome, Elaine. We agree. Julie is the ultimate role model for women in the shooting sports, and in lots of other areas, too! Thanks for reading. Good luck with the training, and if we run another give-away of pink hats, you’ll be among the first to know if you keep checking back here! But wait! We’re going to be giving away some really cool Smith & Wesson swag next week — so watch for Julie’s next blog here, OK?

As a NC CCW Instructor and NRA Instructor, teach as many Americans as possible to shoot safe, smart and always challenge themselves. Improve my skills while remembering their is brilliance in the basics. Expand into a Personal Protective Detail s-corp by next year And….
I really want to win the pink cap for my friend and fellow warrior from the US Army Special Operations Command, Tina. (Because they don’t yet make, “for those that have hunted armed men, training will never be the same”) t-shirts!!

  • Janet says: January 14, 2012 at 5:10 pm

    1. Run a monthly program to introduce more women to shooting on our range, and make it so much fun they keep coming back!
    2. Become an NRA Instructor.
    3. Practice enough so I can shoot the Far and Near Standards stage getting all my shots on target and within the par time at the Smith & Wesson International Revolver Championship this year!

  • Lori Click says: January 13, 2012 at 9:51 pm

My goal this year is to practice dry firing as Julie suggested, place first in my class in our local club and encourage all the other ladies who join our local club this year to continue to shoot and have lots of fun.

  • Deborah says: January 13, 2012 at 7:20 pm

As always my biggest goal is not to DQ! If I get through the matches without making any major mistakes I’m a happy girl ! I’m not fast, but I am accurate. I’m also hoping to keep working with our 12yr. old son. He’s going to blow past me very soon and I can’t wait to see it ! 🙂

  • Jackie says: January 13, 2012 at 6:29 pm

CONFIDENCE! I never shot a gun until I was 55 and now love it but I’m always the “granny” on the range. Wish they all understood I want to have as much fun as everyone else and increase my skills.

  • Jennifer VanZieleghem says: January 13, 2012 at 5:44 pm

My goals are to finish with my CRO class, take the NRA instructor class and as boring as it sounds really commit to a dry fire practice that I can’t make excuses for!

  • Nathan T says: January 13, 2012 at 4:57 pm

My shooting goal for 2012 is to get my GSSF score under 100 points (2011 score was 115.41, but 44 points were additional for one miss and outside the X and other rings).

Other than that, my other shooting goal is to shoot even more than last year now that I’ve been reloading 9mm the last six months, and just need to order bullets to start reloading .45ACP.

  • Steve Snyder says: January 13, 2012 at 4:11 pm

I want to get more people involved in IDPA and Action Pistol.

  • Robert Eld says: January 13, 2012 at 1:57 pm

My shooting goal for 2012 is to work my way back into competing after being out for over a year from surgery and cancer treatment. I’ve missed the joy and pride in improving my performance and of course all my shooting friends made and not yet made.

  • Jennie says: January 13, 2012 at 1:46 pm

    I have 2 goals:
one: I want to get a 600 out of 600 at my club PPC, I am close, getting 570’s
two: I want to move up a class in IDPA

  • San says: January 13, 2012 at 1:43 pm

Obtain CCP, take a couple classes on defending your home etc.
Enter a match before summer. Join a league.

  • Nancy says: January 13, 2012 at 12:23 pm

Goal is to become as comfortable shooting the mid-frame revolvers as I already am with my 9mm auto! They still feel funny in my hands!

  • Jeff Phistner says: January 13, 2012 at 10:49 am

My shooting goal this year is to find a range and use it!

  • Chris says: January 13, 2012 at 10:43 am

Last year was a come back year for me. Recovering from a motorcycle accident the previous year. So 2012 I am back on my feet and have Two area matches one state match, and will be at USPSA Nationals one way or another this year. That was the goal I set in the hospital bed and this year I am doing it.

  • dale disque says: January 13, 2012 at 10:42 am

Goals? Mine would be to simply get out more often and take advantage of something I not only enjoy but a freedom that not every free man and woman has the opportunity to do. Not only do I want to get my kids involved more, but some antigun folks as well to show them the other side of what firearms can do other than the bad press they seem to always get.

  • Britney Starr says: January 13, 2012 at 10:33 am

My shooting goal for 2012 is to break a perfect round of trap!

  • Andrea says: January 13, 2012 at 10:30 am

Shooting goal for 2012: to improve my trigger control! Tuning it to 3 pounds will help me bag that trophy Mule Deer this year!

  • Janice says: January 13, 2012 at 10:04 am

My first goal is to have FUN as a 3 x cancer survivor at the indoor range and progress to the outdoors when the weather permits. Julie is my idol and would love to sport that pink hat in honor of 2 of my cancers and my new S&W revolver!

Off to practice so I can join in on the ladies night on the range!

It doesn’t take much to make me happy as I am grateful for each day…

  • Jacob says: January 13, 2012 at 10:03 am

My goal is to shoot IDPA this year for the first time and compete in at least a state match. Local matches are great but one larger match would be even better.

Practice at least a couple times a week and get more trigger time (both dry fire and live fire).

Oh, and have fun doing it all… 🙂

  • Tracy Hughes says: January 13, 2012 at 10:00 am

My goal is to establish a solid training/practice schedule to improve my competition skills. But in addition to that, I want to share the wonderful world of shooting, shooting sports and the empowerment of that experience to as many women as I possibly can in 2012!!

    Tracy

  • Joanna Dickens says: January 13, 2012 at 9:56 am

My shooting goal is to shoot a tighter group at a distance longer than 20′.

  • Rachel Baker says: January 12, 2012 at 7:10 am

I have two shooting goals for 2012:
    1) I’d like to get my boys involved in the 4-H shooting sports and look into becoming a 4-H shooting sports instructor.
    2) I’d like to become a better more consistent shoot with my shotgun and be able to effectively gun for my own dog in NSTRA field trials. I want to encourage other women to run their dogs in NSTRA field trials without having to have a man gun for them.

  • Rachel Baker says: January 12, 2012 at 7:05 am

I have a couple of shooting goals for 2012:
    1) To become a 4-H shooting sports instructor. I love to teach and feel it’s so important to get our kids involved in shooting sports and trained on gun safety.

    2) I want to become a better shot with my shotgun and be able to effectively and consistently shoot for my dog in NSTRA field trials. I want other women to see that women can compete in NSTRA and not have to have a man to gun for them.

My goal as a basic pistol instructor this year is to train as many men, women and youths as possible. Women and youths are the future of the shooting sports and may actually save the 2nd Amendment.

  • Anna Herrmann says: January 10, 2012 at 8:09 pm

I just got a LH Stag Arms 3G for my birthday; my goal is to run my pistol, shotgun and rifle smoothly this year in any of the matches I shoot, keep shots in A zone for production with my Glock, and become more accurate on any steel I shoot with pistol.I’m 51 years old and I absolutely adore USPSA and 3 gun;and I really enjoy seeing these younger ladies absolutely rock their guns…very inspiring, these women keep our sport growing!

  • ashley says: January 10, 2012 at 11:10 am

My goal for 2012 is to get my CCW as quickly as possible, after I have already received my .40 cal Taurus for Christmas after a break in left me and my two small children defenseless. Luckily I was able to scare off the intruder with a very convincing BB rifle we had. I have been spending time at the range with our 12 gauge shotgun and working on kill shots from 75 yds away. I have plans to take a tactical training handgun class, this class will show you where to retreat should a shoot out happen, fight your adrenaline so that you can think clearly, etc. Never again will I be made to feel defenseless like that again.

  • ashley says: January 10, 2012 at 11:02 am

My goal for 2012 is to get my CCW after I already got my .40 cal Taurus handgun for Christmas after a break in left me and my kids defenseless, I was lucky to scare the intruder off with a very convincing BB gun. I have been spending time at the range last year learning how to use our 12 gauge we bought, i can get a kill shot from 75 yds. This year I plan on taking tactical gun training to teach me how to beat the adrenaline rush and think clearly when you are presented with a dangerous situation. As a mom, I have to think of all angles, where to put my kids out of harms way, etc. Never again will I be made to feel defenseless like that intruder made me feel.

  • Donnette says: January 10, 2012 at 3:22 am

My goal for 2012 is to classify as a marksman in IDPA. I need 3 less seconds. So close! I also am getting my CCW but have to wait another 11 months (lovely CA). I also want to encourage companies to start marketing products for women. Too much masculine. I want to see ear protection in other colors. Range bags with style, clothing with finesse, etc. And encourage other women to use their right to protect themselves!

  • Yvonne says: January 9, 2012 at 10:17 pm

In 2012 I WILL classify as a Marksman in IDPA; and continue to improve my accuracy and speed. I also want to become a certified NRA pistol instructor. I enjoy shooting and while helping my friend out at his gun shop/range I have been able to work with women new to the sport and help them get started.

  • Julie says: January 9, 2012 at 8:55 pm

My goal for 2012 is to get my Concealed Handgun License. I have completed my initial paperwork and my next step is to take my CHL class. I would like to have my license by this summer.

  • Shirley says: January 9, 2012 at 8:35 pm

I intend to spend more time at the range this year…and my goal is to match my husbands scores…next year will work on besting him!!!

  • Chris M says: January 9, 2012 at 7:50 pm

I want to make master in CDP this year.

  • Trisha says: January 9, 2012 at 4:57 pm

As a new shooter, my goal is to become solid in the fundamentals of shooting. I have not shot a gun prior to this year and intend on becoming a participant at local pistol competitions rather than a spectator. A pink hat would be a perfect accessory at matches in a sea of men.

  • Brooke says: January 9, 2012 at 4:50 pm

2012 goals – classify as marksman in IDPA, get classified in USPSA, Shoot a 20 in Trap, Get 45 or better in our 100 shot sporting clays tourney, get at least one more woman to shoot any of the for mentioned sports! Not finish dead last at the S&W Indoor Nationals the 1st time I shoot it this year.

  • Melissa Tian says: January 9, 2012 at 3:41 pm

I just started shooting last April, and my shooting goal this year is to take part in IDPA and IPSC competitions and win medals. Julie’s a great role model, I’m inspired! 🙂

  • jeff king says: January 9, 2012 at 2:56 pm

Started a tactical medicine class after retiring from the fire dept. A lot of schools teach basic and advanced carry but no medicine. It;s time to change that. Advanced personal protection and gunshot trauma.

  • Amy W says: January 9, 2012 at 2:25 pm

Last year I learned to shoot and also obtained by CCW!! This year I want to get solid in the basics and join a couple of leagues to get the feel of competing with others! I also want to get at least 5 or more women introduced to the sport this year!

  • JulieG says: January 9, 2012 at 12:58 pm

GREAT goals everyone! I love to see people excited about shooting and sharing their sport with either a loved one or someone new!

  • CIndy says: January 9, 2012 at 12:51 pm

My shooting goal for 2012 is to shoot a major match (IDPA or USPSA) and rank high enough in my class to get a trophy to take home.

  • Andrea Fisher says: January 9, 2012 at 12:46 pm

My goal is to get out more to the trap, skeet and 5 stand ranges. And bring my sister along. She is doing GREAT with the rifle, but want to expand her knowledge and experience!

  • Andrea Fisher says: January 9, 2012 at 12:45 pm

My goal is to get out more to the skeet, trap and 5 stand ranges, and get my sister to go along with me! She is doing GREAT with a rifle, but want to expand her experience!

  • eRIC says: January 9, 2012 at 12:13 pm

My goal is to convince my wife to join me at the range as an active participant and not just a casual observer. My hope is to find a gun that she would be more comfortable with.

    • Brooke says: January 9, 2012 at 4:43 pm

Hi Eric, I don’t know where you are but one possible way to help your wife is the NRA Women on Target events. Everyone is different as they are held by volunteers at clubs. Just a thought.

      • Barbara Baird says: January 9, 2012 at 4:47 pm

        Eric,
Brooke is right. Another option is the National Shooting Sports Foundation’s First Shots program. Or, find a range that rents guns and also, find her an instructor that has a track record of working successfully with new women shooters and get her on the line with that person. Good luck!

    • JulieG says: January 9, 2012 at 5:35 pm

What does she/you shoot now? I find that most women love shooting a .22. It’s the best caliber to learn gunhandling skills, sight alignment and trigger control without the distraction of recoil. One of my favorites for this is the M&P .22. It’s just like a center fire M&P, but shoots soft 22.

  • Rick B says: January 9, 2012 at 12:08 pm

My goal is to find a rifle range that will allow shooting prone or standing.

  • Rick B says: January 9, 2012 at 12:03 pm

My goal is to find a range that will let me shoot my rifles from any other position besides the bench.

  • Paul says: January 9, 2012 at 12:03 pm

My personal goal is to advance from a ‘D’ shooter to a ‘C’ shooter in USPSA. More importantly, I want to give my 8-year old daughter more time on the range. She recently shot some .22s for the first time and did great! I want her to understand that the shooting sports are about skill and hard work more than size and strength. I am very happy that there are role models like Julie G out there for her!

  • Kate D says: January 9, 2012 at 12:01 pm

My goal this year is to work on more accurate double taps, and also to receive my CCW permit! I look forward to spending more time on the range!

  • J. Dock says: January 9, 2012 at 11:57 am

My shooting goal for 2012 is to actually shoot some form of match. I don’t care what it is, or what level, I just want to feel that “next level” of pressure.

  • Kathy Wingo says: January 9, 2012 at 11:55 am

My shooting goal this year to make it to the range for practice more often. Busy schedules and classes didn’t allow for as much as I would have liked this past year. Practice, Practice, Practice…no matter how much you know, practice is the key to great shooting. Have fun in 2012!

  • mik3 says: January 9, 2012 at 11:31 am

This year a goal of mine is pretty much the same as the goal of http://WWW.WIILSHOOT.COM
to get more people shooting using the calendar we provide. To grow action shooting in our area. To shoot safe, faster, and be brutally accurate both on the range and off!

  • stuart wong says: January 9, 2012 at 11:30 am

My goals this year is to involve my son in steel challenge matches and USPSA and get him on the competition track.

  • Andrew Whelan says: January 9, 2012 at 11:29 am

My shooting goal this year is the same as every other year, to get more non-shooters to the range. I enjoy teaching them firearm safety and seeing the look on their faces after their first shot. I’d totally rock that hat though while doing it 😉

  • Kim Miklos says: January 9, 2012 at 11:29 am

I wanna compete in my first USPSA match and hopefully do well!!

  • Matt Brennan says: January 9, 2012 at 11:28 am

My goal for 2012 is to open my own gun club and shooting range so that we can open up the sport to some new, interested people in my area. The closest indoor shooting range is 63 miles from my house and we are looking at a location that is about 8 miles. We will be able to hold classes to help new shooters and the like.
My friend and I are also planning on building an IDPA range and a shoot house in the field so that we can help train people for home self defense.

  • Kara says: January 9, 2012 at 11:26 am

My main shooting goal this year to move up by at least 2 classes and show the boys that us girls are just as good 🙂

There aren’t many competitive female pistol shooters here so I plan to make my mark and eventually represent my country!

  • Jake says: January 9, 2012 at 11:22 am

This year’s goal is to make IDPA master.

  • Jim K says: January 9, 2012 at 11:18 am

Move from up from USPSA D class to C or B using a new S&W M&P Pro.

  • Angela says: January 9, 2012 at 10:25 am

My shooting goal this year is to be able to move from the general purpose range at my gun club to the practical shooting pits and practice enough to take the classifier and start shooting IDPA matches at my club. So essentially Practice Practice Practice!
