The women – Caroline Schack Svankjær from Denmark, Madeleine Pettersson from Sweden, Pilar Montero from Spain and BASC’s vice chair Claire Sadler – all gathered at Childerley Sporting in Bedfordshire for the first leg of their trip, where they took time out of their day to take part in the podcast recording.

The field to fork element of the trip was integral, with the women having the opportunity to stalk Chinese water deer for the first time as part of a management cull. The cull animals taken during the day were later cooked and eaten in the evening.

Claire Sadler said: “Throughout the podcast you will hear us explore why there is still a place for women’s shooting events, what the different dynamics and barriers to entry are across Europe and advice for any woman or mother who is struggling with ‘the juggle’. “There’s also a cameo from the local ice cream van and the European visitors’ first ever experience of a ‘99’.

“I’m proud to have helped give a voice to the global women’s hunting community and to support what continues to be the fastest growing demographic in fieldsports.

“BASC’s Women in Shooting initiative sets out to provide opportunities for women to become involved, or more involved in the sector, helping to address the underrepresentation of women in shooting.”

BASC is the UK’s largest shooting and conservation organisation with 150,000 members.
