According to Rossi’s website, “For when you only need one shot, there’s the Rossi Brawler. You can throw down on anything from rattlesnakes to medium-sized game thanks to the Brawler’s ability to fire either 45 Colt or a 410 shotshell.” I decided to “throw-down” at an old dump that is situated on our property here in the Ozarks. It has a good backstop in addition to being a dump.
When I saw the Brawler, I thought, “Now, that gun looks fun.” Seriously. It did not disappoint. I had to shoot the .410 to see the holes in an old printer, and then, I shot at a satellite dish. I stood about 25 yards away.
Then, I used the .45 Colt on a glass cognac bottle and a tin Folgers coffee can. Of course, using standard safety rules, I shot from above the dump, firing downward. I hit all the targets and I’m sure that the pile of dump materials behind the targets absorbed the bullets and shot pellets accordingly.
I liked it so much that I believe this will be a great gun to take back to the dump area with a few of my pre-teen and teen grands someday. Why? Because if you operate this gun, you’ll learn how to use the simple break-action and cross bolt safety. You’ll focus on one shot and one shot only to get it done. You can start with .45 Colt and then, graduate to a little more kick with the .410, up to three-inch shells.
If you want, you can attach a red dot, but for starters, the iron sights work well.
My husband shot it and since he is a major trigger snob, approved the trigger. He thought it shot crisp and clean. That’s a compliment, coming from him.
Here are the Brawler specs that make this affordable gun attractive, and also, a gun that would be an excellent teaching tool.
If you don’t have access to a dump, you might plink with it on a range. Rossi calls it an “adventure gun.” It is a “fun gun” to shoot, and easy to operate.
You could place the Brawler, loaded and with its safety on, into your truck or side-by-side or even on your motorcycle or dirt bike. Use it for snakes, any threats, etc. If you want a one-shot wonder, this one works. You may take a look at some of the ammo for personal defense out there, such as Winchester’s PDX1 Defender, which I used in the Taurus Judge review last year. According to Winchester, “It combines four plated Defense Disc projectiles and 16 pellets of plated BB shot. The result is the ideal personal defense load for short-range engagement with the performance needed to stop threats.”
You can see more about the Rossi Brawler at Rossi’s website.
Here’s the kicker; the MSRP is only $257.99.
