We like creating dishes with bold seasonings and flavors when cooking with ground venison. Recipes like our venison lasagna stuffed shells and loaded venison queso dip. These quesadillas also have bold flavors, which pair well with venison meat’s strong, earthy flavor profile.

Ingredients Needed

venison-quesadillas
  • 2 Tbsp. olive oil – divided
  • ½ cup chopped yellow onion
  • 1 Poblano pepper – diced
  • 1 pound ground venison
  • ¼ tsp. Pepper
  • ½ tsp. Salt
  • 1 lime – zest and juice
  • ¼ cup sour cream
  • 1 packet taco seasoning
  • 1 ½ Tbsp. cumin
  • 2 Tbsp. tomato paste
  • 1 Tbsp. minced garlic
  • ½ cup water
  • 4 flour tortillas
  • 2 cups Mexican blend shredded cheese
  • Pico de gallo, guacamole, cilantro, and other toppings of your choice

How to Make Venison Quesadillas

1. Add 1 Tbsp. olive oil to a skillet and heat over medium heat. Add the chopped onion and Poblano pepper and cook until softened.

2. Add the ground venison, salt, and pepper to the skillet and cook thoroughly.

3. While the venison is cooking, prepare the lime crema. Add the sour cream to a small bowl. Zest and juice ½ lime and add to the sour cream mixture. Stir to combine. It should be thin enough to drizzle over the quesadillas. If too thick, add 1 tsp. of water at a time until it’s thinned. Season with salt to taste. Refrigerate until ready to serve.
