Gearing Up in 2024

As I begin planning the “Women’s Outdoor News” 2025 editorial calendar, I can’t help but look back at the many articles we shared in 2024. The popular Gear Up column for Springfield Armory has been near and dear to my heart since we started it back in June 2017. Here is a look at all the gearing up we did in 2024.

Looking for something fun to do during your time at the range? In” ‘Pistol Practice’ for Couples or Friends,” I delved into the book “Pistol Practice” by John Kolis and suggested some fun drills to for couples or friends to do together. Heck, why not make your shooting practice fun? The book takes you through the paces and is not only a good beginner’s book, but a great refresher.

If you’re a 9mm enthusiast seeking a reliable home defense gun, I’ve got the perfect solution. My article, “SAINT Victor 9mm Carbine: A Smart Choice for Home Defense,” explains why a carbine is a practical and effective choice, and why a PCC is a great deal. It’s all about ensuring your safety and peace of mind.

In “Christmas in July: Santa and Springfield Armory,” I shared gift suggestions from Springfield Armory’s website that are available all year long. For those choosing to brave the crowds in brick-and-mortar stores, I offered tips for carrying concealed while holiday shopping in another post. This is a great article to revisit any time of the year.

I followed the holiday shopping article with, “Self-Defense Training: A Well-Rounded Approach.” It’s important to take the safety tips you learn and spend time with dry-fire practice or head out to the range for live fire. In this article I offer suggestions for that either method of practice.

For those suffering the pain of arthritis in their hands, time on the range may be painful. After working with a new client who suffers from this malady, I wrote “Shooting Through the Pain of Arthritis” offering suggestions grip strengthening and making handgun manipulation easier.

Back to the Basics

It doesn’t hurt to return to the basics, especially if you are not doing your best at the range. In the articles, “Revisiting the Fundamentals of Shooting” and “How to Recognize and Clear Malfunctions” I take a step back and cover just that. Both of these articles are great reminders for the seasoned shooter and the novice shooter.

Gearing Up with New Firearms

Springfield Armory introduces new firearm models and versions every year, and 2024 was no exception. Here are some guns they rolled out that made gearing up super easy.

All 1911 enthusiasts were excited when Springfield Armory refreshed the TRP line with six new models. Read about the history of this line and the new offerings in “Springfield Armory’s TRP Family for 1911 Enthusiasts.”

A wise woman once said, “You can never have too many Hellcat Pros.” In 2024 Springfield released the Hellcat Pro Comp OSP handgun. Find out why you should add this particular Hellcat Pro to your collection here. OK, by the way, it was really me who said, “You can never have too many Hellcat Pros,” but seriously, if you have not already shot one, what are you waiting for?

During the summer of 2023, Springfield Armory released the Echelon, touting it as a new standard for modern, striker-fired duty pistols. Then, just recently, the introduction of the Echelon 4.0C caught my attention. Find out what impressed me in “Echelon 4.0C: A First Look at Springfield Armory’s New Carry Pistol.”

And that’s a wrap! I cannot wait to share all the gearing up we have planned for 2025 with Springfield Armory.
