Vera Koo: Video Highlights of Vera’s Shooting Career

Did you know that during her time as a competitive shooter, Vera Koo had professional videos made about her experiences? Below is a collection of some of these videos that we are confident you will enjoy viewing.

In a precursor to her book, “Vera Koo: The Most Unlikely Shooter A Memoir,” Vera first told her competition story 22 years ago in this early video. It goes all the way back to her days of IPSIC shooting, a competition I never knew Vera shot. Jim O’Young, Vera’s first trainer, shares his side of the story of why they began working together. One of her mentors, Ichi Nagato from Japan, explains the physical obstacles women have to overcome to compete with men. The video also explains the Bianchi Cup events with highlights from some of Vera’s runs and includes appearances of a young Julie Golob, along with Doug Koenig.

Watch Vera’s competition and daily life behind the scenes in this 2003 documentary style video. Vera and her friends and family, including legendary handgun competitor Mickey Fowler and other famous shooters, reminisce and share their “Vera” stories. It’s interesting to watch her early years as she practices on the range for the Masters.

Now competing in both the women’s and senior division of the Bianchi Cup, in this 2015 promo video we find out how far Vera has come since those early years. It’s amazing to see the difference in her confidence and pick up some of her inspirational and motivational quotes. I remember seeing the videographer following her around during the match and watching as they filmed the final scene of her walking up the hill from the range. Who would of thought Vera and I would work together in the future?

This short video slide show, also from 2015, is subtitled in Simplified Chinese. It shows us some highlights from that year’s Bianchi Cup competition (which includes a day of 40-degree weather with torrential rain) and explains how to shoot the four events.

Do you know the four firearm safety rules? In this video, Vera highlights each rule using her competition pistol. She also added a reminder to wear both eye and ear protection.

As if to tie all the content of the videos above in a beautiful bundle Vera’s audiobook trailer for “The Most Unlikely Champion” also is included on her YouTube channel. Even if you’ve already read the book, you’ll want to listen to the audio version once you’ve watched this video.

As a new year approaches I cannot wait to see what Vera has in store.
