It’s that time of year when numerous people don their orange vests and hats while heading into the woods in hopes of filling their freezers for next year’s meals. At The WON, we’ve shared numerous stories and tips on hunting for eradication, sport and food using the fine firearms from both Aero Precision and Stag Arms. Below are hunting highlights that may inspire you to head out to the prairie or woods, or maybe even a mountain top, sometime soon.
Stag Arms Inaugural Ladies Prairie Dog Hunt
In 2023, a group of ladies (myself included) went on a prairie dog hunt in Lingle, Wyoming, near the Nebraska border. This was not a bougie weekend. We assisted each other as we walked through fields of mud and muck (and ticks) carrying gear, glistened a bit with sweat and even returned with sunburned faces. We had a fantastic time enjoying meals together, building new friendships and reinforcing old ones. And yes, we also helped a rancher with his little prairie dog problem.
Predator Hunting Part 1: The Set Up
If you have chickens, livestock, small dogs, outdoor cats or live in the country, you know about predators and the devastation they cause in search of their next food source. After losing half of her chicken flock to a family of foxes, Becky Yackley decided it was time to take control. In part one of Becky’s two-part series about predator hunting, she shares her tips on gear and preparing for the hunt.
Predator Hunting Part 2: More Considerations
In part two of her predator hunting series, Becky helps us gain an understanding of predators – how to find them and how to stop them. She discusses permits and permissions and what to consider when planning the hunt.
Aimee Botkins, the Project Coordinator at Aero Precision, shares her tale of hunting elk in Wyoming with her father. Written in a diary form, you’re sure to enjoy her observations and musings as she spends quality time with her dad.
Hunting: Stag Arms Pursuit Bolt Action on Whitetail Hunt
Find out what happened when Aero Precisions’ marketing manager, Torrie Roodhouse, joined our publisher, aka Babbs, in southwest Missouri, for a whitetail deer hunt at her ranch. Do you understand the significant benefits that hunting brings to landowners, conservation efforts and local economies? In this post, I highlight these crucial aspects of hunting, which is a great resource to share with non-hunters who may not fully appreciate the value of this generational activity.
Connecting Family and Communities Through Hunting
If you read the above, you now know how hunting benefits landowners, the economy and conservation. But have you ever thought how it connects families and communities? In this post, I share my thoughts on how it bridges the gap between different generations and the benefits or spending time alone in nature. Also included is information on three venison donation programs in the U.S.
Thank you to everyone who hunts and those who stay home to process and cook the meat. We need to make sure we always have this privilege and continue passing it along to future generations, preserving our rich hunting traditions and knowledge. Michelle Cerino collected our hunting stories surrounding Stag Arms and Aero Precision products. From prairie dogs to whitetail to elk, mixed with musings on why we hunt, this is one round-up that hits the mark in regard to the tradition of hunting.
