Sisters on the Fly: Year in Review

We think you’ll enjoy reading about all the causes Sisters on the Fly supported during 2023 in their yearly message from Maurrie. ~The Editors

As I look back on 2023, I am so impressed with the love, caring, and sharing seen throughout our amazing circle of women. When we see a need, we are quick to step up. Whether it is recognizing a personal situation—like reaching out to a Sister who’s been given a difficult medical diagnosis—or stepping up to fill a need in the community.

Nationally, Sisters on the Fly have supported Casting for Recovery which enhances the lives of breast cancer survivors by connecting them to each other and to nature through the therapeutic sport of fly fishing—at no cost to the participants. Sisters have donated both time and money to this worthy cause, castingforrecovery.org.

In addition, Sisters all over the country have supported Wreaths Across America which places live, balsam veterans’ wreaths on the headstones of our fallen heroeswreathsacrossamerica.org. Another nonprofit sponsored by many Sisters is Make a Wish Foundation which creates happy magical memories by granting life-changing wishes for children with critical illnesses, wish.org.

Dolly Parton’s Imagination Library will be the beneficiary of the spectacular 25th Silver Jubilee gathering of 300 trailers in Tennessee in 2024, imaginationlibrary.com. Volunteering time and money when we see a need is deep in the DNA of our Sisterhood.

Sister-Corps mobilizes volunteers to provide recovery efforts in areas affected by natural disasters, for environmental relief, or for other community needs. https://sister-corps.org/

The unsung heroes are the Sisters across the country who raise money for nonprofits—large and small—in their own communities. Just a few examples are Sunflower House (in Shawnee, Kansas), SAFE Project in Wyoming, Lake Blackshear Dog Rescue in Georgia, Harbor House in Montana, and many more.

I applaud and admire each and every one of you, and join you in supporting causes in my community that are dear to my heart. Together we are making a big difference.

Sending love,

Maurrie
