Recipes that involve dumping ingredients into a crockpot in the morning, easily reserve a place on our weekday dinner rotation. These Easy Crockpot Venison Tacos with Beer make use of venison round steak, a cut that can sometimes wind up tough when prepared. But if cooked by this method (the slow cooker), the round steak becomes flavorful and tender. Keep reading to learn how to make these simply delicious tacos.
Gather the following simple ingredients:
I recently started making homemade tortillas using this easy recipe from The Cafe Sucre Farine. While the store bought versions work well for this meal I prefer the flavor of the homemade version.
First, defrost the venison round steaks. Next, I gave mine a quick rinse at the sink. Place the steaks in the crockpot and cover with the taco seasoning.
Second, scatter the chopped onions over the round steaks.
Then, pour the beer over the top of the meat.
I enjoy tacos that have chunks of tomatoes or tomatillos mixed in with the meat. So, I added a jar of salsa verde into the mixture. This step is optional. There’s no need to stir the mixture – just dump and go.
Third, slow cook for eight hours on low. At the end of the cook time, remove the venison rounds and slice each into strips and remove any pieces of bone and sinew.
Add the sliced meat back into the crockpot and give it a good stir. Keep the taco filling on warm until ready to serve.
Last, use a slotted spoon to fill a tortilla with the meat mixture. Then, top with whatever your heart desires. I used lettuce, sour cream, tamed jalapeno slices, shredded cheese, red salsa, cilantro and sour cream. As you can probably tell, I like all of the toppings! But honestly, this meat doesn’t require much else. It is super flavorful, not gamey at all, and very tender.
