A red dot sight is a sighting system affixed to your firearm that gives users a point of aim in the form of an illuminated red dot. Red dots have gained popularity over the past few years in the shooting sports community due to their added benefit of single focal plane-focused shooting. This style of shooting allows the user to stay focused on their target versus concentrating on the front sight. The shooter maintains visual on her target the entire time.
A red dot also simplifies the sight alignment process. Traditionally, when you’re shooting a firearm with iron sights, you line up your front and rear sights and superimpose them onto your target while also ensuring that you keep equal space on both sides of your front sight. A red dot, on the other hand, allows you to place the dot on your target while maintaining the single focal plane. Simply put, lining up two things is easier than three. This concept makes it easier to track moving targets and engage while on the move. Additionally, this provides more consistency for shooters and translates to better accuracy, especially at greater distances.
The final benefit is that shooters with vision problems see vast improvements in their shooting capabilities while utilizing red dots. According to the Center for Disease Control (CDC), in 2012, 4.2 million Americans, 40 years and older, suffered from uncorrectable vision impairment issues. A substantial number of individuals could benefit from adopting pistol red dots. With all this talk about the color red, you have comfort in knowing that reticles are also offered in different colors. If you experience red-green color blindness, there are also 10 million Americans who experience this, and there are options for you, such as gold.
Benefits of Pistol Red Dots
Some things in life are inevitable, such as the older we get, the more our vision deteriorates. Adding accessories such as a pistol red dot sight to your firearm can help shooters maintain confidence in their shooting capabilities when their vision declines. That confidence can keep them in the shooting sports community longer. Have you considered adding a pistol red dot sight to your firearm?
