Baked Ground Venison Orzo Pasta Recipe

Here’s another single skillet Wild Game dinner idea that uses some of that ground venison from your freezer. A simple Italian inspired baked ground venison orzo pasta recipe.

I’m sharing two ways to Dish this up for dinner.

The first option is to cook this up on your outdoor Traeger Grill. Cooking outdoors is always more fun and entertaining than cooking in the kitchen. Plus when you cook this dish on the grill, you’ll wind up with hints of smoke in every bite.

The second option is to cook the single skillet venison bake direct on the stove. You’ll save time and the end all reward will be just as gratifying.

Baked Ground Venison Orzo Pasta

Ingredients

  • 1 lb ground venison
  • 1 clove garlic, minced
  • 2 tbsp unsalted butter, divided
  • 1 tsp kosher salt
  • 1 tsp granulated garlic
  • 1 tsp oregano
  • 1 cup orzo pasta
  • 24 oz spaghetti sauce, tomato basil
  • 1/2 cup water
  • Parmesan cheese, grated
  • flat leaf parsley, chopped

Instructions

Cooking on the Traeger Grill

  1. Heat the Traeger grill to 375 degrees. Set a 12inch cast iron skillet on the grill to preheat.
  2. Add the butter and minced garlic to the skillet. Close lid and cook for 5-10 minutes until the garlic becomes fragrant. Add the ground venison, salt, garlic powder and oregano to the skillet and continue to cook for 20 minutes until browned.
  3. Add the dried orzo pasta, spaghetti sauce and water stirring to combine with the ground meat. Close lid and cook for 25-30 minutes until the pasta is done. Top with Parmesan cheese and garnish with parsley.
