Established on the IGFA’s 80th anniversary three years ago, IGFA Day is held annually on June 7th and is a global celebration of recreational angling.
Thanks to our passionate and dedicated supporters and our international network of representatives, IGFA Day 2022 events took place in eight different countries, reaching hundreds of young anglers and their families.
Additionally, the IGFA reached our initiative to teach 100,000 youth around the world to fish during an IGFA Day 2022 event – a fitting way to reach this major goal!
Here is a recap from some of these great IGFA Day 2022 events held around the world.
Leading off the month of June were several summer fishing camps and clinics held in the United States where over 100 junior anglers were reached. IGFA Headquarters began its summer fishing camp on the east coast of Florida in both Palm Beach and Broward Counties, while at the same time IGFA partners with Saltwater Assassin Fishing Charters began their Angler’s Boot Camp on the west coast of Florida, US. Also, IGFA youth education partners at Reel Guppy Outdoors hosted fourth grade students on the Port Hueneme fishing pier in California, US.
For the first time ever, the IGFA hosted youth fishing education programs in the country of Iran. Focused around IGFA Day, IGFA Passports to Fishing events occurred in four different cities in Iran, where more than 60 children were reached. The major events occurred in Tehran and Mashhad, and IGFA Captain Arash Amini led the coordination of these events.
The second Kids’ School in Corfu, Greece, occurred on June 11, after a two-year delay from the originally scheduled event. This event incorporated an IGFA Passports to Fishing kit and the coordinator, Spyros Thymis exclaimed, “I can assure you the fullness I felt was because of so many happy faces around, ready to start their ‘fishing trip’.”
