IGFA Surpasses Goal to Teach 100,000 Children to Fish

DANIA BEACH, FL – July 18, 2022 – The International Game Fish Association (IGFA), is excited to announce that the organization has recently met and surpassed its goal of teaching 100,000 children around the world to fish. This global initiative was launched during the IGFA’s 80th anniversary in 2019 to internationally expand the IGFA’s youth angling education programs.

IGFA Surpasses Goal to Teach 100,000 Children to Fish

To accomplish this ambitious initiative, the IGFA established three avenues:

  • Develop and distribute IGFA Passports to Fishing kits (fishing clinics in a box) to our international network of supporters and education partners.
  • Create a series of online angling education modules and virtual fishing programs to teach the basics of recreational fishing and the importance of conservation and environmental stewardship.
  • Establish strategic partnerships with like-minded organizations and educational institutions that share similar missions and values when it comes to youth angling education.

Through the development of these new programs and relationships, the IGFA youth angling education programs have expanded to nearly 40 different countries on six continents and are offered in 14 different languages.

“It has been an exciting challenge working toward this goal over the past several years,” stated IGFA Education Program Manager Lisa Morse. “While a challenging goal to achieve, this initiative has spurred the growth of our programs and resulted in the education of new young anglers around the world.”

The teach 100,000 children to fish mark was met in early June 2022, as the organization celebrated IGFA Day – a global celebration of angling around the IGFA’s anniversary.

“I am extremely proud of what our education team has accomplished, and I am very grateful to all of our representatives and strategic partners that helped us reach this goal,” said IGFA President Jason Schratwieser. “With this initiative now met, we look forward to further expand these important programs.”
