CZ-USA built the new CZ Quail Over and Under shotgun at the request of Pheasants Forever (PF) – one of America’s premier conservation groups–and the Quail is PF’s 2019 Youth Gun of the Year.
Nearly identical to the popular CZ Drake, the CZ Quail is different in that it has a slightly shorter length of pull at 13 ¾-inches, making it more comfortable to carry and use for youth shooters and smaller-statured hunters. CZ-USA’s deletion on the midrib also trimmed off a noticeable amount of weight from the muzzle end of this O/U, so the shotgun is easier to shoulder and a bit quicker to swing on target.
The Quail also boasts a single trigger and selectable barrels.
This is an extractor gun which tends to be substantially easier to open than their ejector counterparts, and the CZ Quail s no exception. A single extractor lifts spent shells from the chambers. The shotgun also ships with five interchangeable choke tubes.
The one piece, CNC-ed receiver is made from 40/41 steel and very durable. The stock and forend are cut from Turkish walnut and feature laser-engraved checkering for a secure grip.
Chambered in 20 gauge and fitted with a 28-inch, vent ribbed barrel, the CZ Quail comes in at the same great price point as the Drake, making it a much more attainable investment than most similarly-equipped youth shotguns.
