Second Year as Women Ice Angler Project Heads Back to Lake of the Woods

(Lake of the Woods, Minn.) February 1, 2016 —The Women Ice Angler Project will soon depart from across the upper Midwest to Lake of the Woods to promote the sport of ice fishing to a specific cultural subset— women. Females are joining the ranks of those who walk on water at a record pace, but some are still unaware of the great sport of ice fishing. This dedicated group of hardwater anglers includes: Clam Outdoors Ice Team Pros Barb Carey and Shelly Holland, outdoor writer Kristine (K.J.) Houtman, photographer Hannah Stonehouse Hudson, Clam power stick pros Bonnie Timm and Rikki Pardun, along with long-time fishing instructor Holly Hanson.

Cyrus Resort of Baudette, Minnesota, known as the “best kept secret of Lake of the Woods,” will host the event February 10, 2014.

This media event will reach women who are ice anglers and want to take their passion to the next level, as well as reach those who have never considered ice angling before. Perhaps some never envisioned it to be a sport to pursue on her own. The new gear by Clam Outdoors has opened the door to keep all anglers warm, dry and comfortable. Along with the high technology and lighter-weight gear from Vexilar, Jiffy and AquaVu, that means anyone can participate. The Chevy trucks will get the gals on the ice with onboard wi-fi so no one will miss a beat in social media and the need to stay accessible and connected to work and families.

Sponsors for the Women Ice Angler Project include: Clam Outdoors, Chevrolet, Vexilar, Jiffy, Aqua Vu, Outdoor First Media, The Great Wild Radio Show, Fish on Kids Books, Stonehouse Photography, WI Women Fish, Cyrus Resort, and Lake of the Woods Tourism Bureau.

Outdoor First Media will film the event and post photos and stories about the adventure on the web site theiceangler.com and facebook.com/womeniceanglerproject. All women are encouraged to post their ice fishing photos and share their stories this winter on this social media application and include #womenonice.

Interviews will be available prior to, during and after the event. Contact Barb Carey for more information at icefishher@gmail.com or call 608-692-7386.
