The Tulsa Metro chapter of Women in the Outdoors invites you to join them for their 8th annual Women in the Outdoors event on Saturday, September 6th, 2014, at Camp Okiwanee in Sapulpa, Okla.
Even if you are a seasoned Women in the Outdoors participant, or new to this event, the day will have something new and exciting to offer you.
Your paid registration includes:
• Choice of 3 to 4 expertly instructed classes (some classes count as 2 because of longer duration of class time)
• Use of all equipment and materials needed for classes
• One year subscription to Turkey Country magazine
• One year membership to the Women in the Outdoors (if membership is current, you may qualify for a refund the day of the event. Please have expiration date of your membership available at sign in)
• Breakfast and lunch
Special Community Raffle: Anyone who brings donated item for Caring Community Friends will receive a raffle ticket for every 5 items (I.e., toiletries and can goods).
Women in the Outdoors Courses:
Archery – Learn the basics of equipment, safety and shooting of a compound bow. Experience the thrill of hitting the mark at the archery range. NEW!! Be fitted for a bow…Learn what kind of bow you like, your draw length, etc. When you leave the fitting area, you can walk into bow store and give them the information, and be ready for your first bow.
Shot Gunning- You will become familiar with different types of shot guns, ammunition, and proper gun fitting. Time will be spent shooting clay targets. Experience the thrill with every hit.
Hand Guns- You will learn the proper handing, shot positions, and techniques of using a hand gun. You will have time to practice your new skills.
Basket Weaving- You will make a unique basket using a gourd and Danish cording to learn a coiling technique. (Additional$10.00 supplies fee) (2 class segment)
Wood Turning- Learn how to use a wood lath. You will make a project piece. (Additional $10.00 supplies fee)
Turkey 101- If you ever wanted to know how to turkey hunt, here’s your chance. You will learn to shoot from a sitting position, how to talk turkey and how to dress for success.
Woodland Wisdom 101: What do you need to take with you to survive a day in the woods. What is safe to eat, and what is poisonous.
Antler Jewelry-Be ready to model the beautiful one of a kind creations you will make using deer antlers. (Additional $5.00 supply Fee)
Knife Forging- Wow your friends and family with the knife you make using forging techniques. Take this amazing creation home with you (additional$15.00 supplies fee) (2 class segment)
Advanced Bow Hunting- Now you know how to shoot a bow, come learn what’s next if you want to hunt with your bow
Feather Craft- Learn all the things you can make using feathers. You will complete a craft project during class.
Hobo Cooking: become an outdoor woman, learn to cook outdoors, and preparing for it.
Journaling and Outdoor Photo- Want to remember your time in the woods. Put it into words and capture it in a photo.
Dutch oven Cooking- Learn how to cook with coals using a cast iron Dutch oven just like the pioneers.
Shot Shell Crafts: take those spent shells and make jewelry, decorations , etc.
WoodBurning :: Learn to use wood burning tools to create those special craft pieces to save for a lifetime
Self Bows- watch the demonstration of self bows, and adeladles.
Cane Arrows making- Come watch a demonstration on self-bow making and then make your own cane arrow.
Wild Game Cooking: Take that wid game and transform it into a dinning masterpiece
Intro into Deer Hunting- Want to know how to get started hunting deer? Learn how and what’s needed to have an enjoyable and successful hunt.
Bug Out Bags:- Come learn how to make a family emergency plan, build a basic disaster supply kit. And what types of supplies you should have in case of an emergency or disaster.
Edible Flower Gardening-Learn what flowers can be eaten and some medical uses using herbs and flowers.
Diet and Outdoor Fitness- Want to lose some weight? Get in shape for the upcoming hunting season? Then this is the class for you.
Twisted Wire Jewelry: learn the art of making jewelry with wire and stones and other artifact.( Class fee of 10.00).
Lotions and Potions: learn to make your own soaps, lotions, and scrubs. (Additional class fee 10.00)
Course Offerings:
Choose 10, 1 being your first choice, ten being your last.
Please do not include additional class fees when you send in your registration. These will be applied at the event. Classes are filled on first come bases.
Accommodations:
For those of you who will be traveling, we will have the bunkhouse available for Friday and Saturday nights, but you will need to provide your own meals and bedding. We have beds for 30 ladies or you may choose to bring a tent and camp. The camp does have grills available and there is a full kitchen in the bunkhouse. Restaurants in town close by.
A conformation letter or email with direction to Camp Okiwanee will be sent upon receipt of your registration form and fee. Please arrive the day of the event between 6:30am and 7:45am. For those of you who will be spending the night, you can check in on Friday, any time after 5:00pm. The event will be over at approximately 6:30 pm Saturday night. Check out Sunday morning by 11:00am.
The cancelation deadline is Sept. 1. If you cancel after the deadline, you will be responsible for the full program fee. You may send a substitute if you can not attend. Event will be held rain or shine
If you have specific dietary needs, please come prepared. We will serve breakfast, Lunch and Dinner. Feel free to bring your own soft drinks. We will provide tea, lemonade, coffee and water.
