Women-only ‘Cast, Blast and Twang’ offered by Colorado Parks & Wildlife

GRANBY, Colo. – To keep up with the growing number of women wishing to hunt and fish, the demand for women-only hunting and fishing classes is also growing. To encourage women to participate on their own, Colorado Parks and Wildlife is offering another free, women-only Cast, Blast and Twang, Saturday, June 28 in the Granby area, beginning at 8:30 a.m. to mid-afternoon.

Offered through Colorado Parks and Wildlife’s Hunter Outreach Program, Cast, Blast and ‘Twang classes are offered to novice hunters across the state. Taught by CPW personnel and volunteers, the day-long event focuses on teaching the basics of fly-fishing, archery and the safe use of shotguns. Women-only classes are among the most popular.

The class is open to women 18 and older. For details and registration, contact Kris Holinka at 970-725-6200. Space is limited.

“These classes fill quickly, so we encourage everyone to call today,” said District Wildlife Manager and instructor Jeromy Huntington of Granby. “There is much to learn if you want to participate on your own and this is one of the best ways to get started.”

Huntington adds that no experience or equipment required; however, bringing snacks, water, sunscreen, insect repellent and any other personal supplies is recommended.

A fishing license is required; however a one-day fishing license is acceptable.

There is a $20 charge that will cover lunch, snacks and water.

For more information, contact Colorado Parks and Wildlife’s office in Hot Sulphur Springs at 970-725-6200.

CPW’s Hunter Outreach Program includes workshops, clinics, seminars and educational hunts that focus on teaching the skills, ethics and traditions of hunting to novice youth and women.
