World Fishing Network supports Casting for Recovery

DENVER – WFN: World Fishing Network, the leading entertainment destination and digital resource for anglers throughout North America, invites anglers to ‘Fish Pink’ and support Casting for Recovery in their mission to improve the quality of life for breast cancer survivors.

Through its partnership with Casting for Recovery (CastingForRecovery.org), WFN is helping to generate awareness of the connection between fishing and breast cancer therapy to its audience of more than 60 million anglers throughout North America by turning its website (WorldFishingNetwork.com) pink from Oct. 15 – 25. By promoting the mission of Casting for Recovery, WFN is highlighting the fact that the fishing community is actively engaged in supporting breast cancer survivors in any stage of treatment and recovery.

“WFN is proud of its continuing support of Casting for Recovery in their mission to provide an opportunity for women whose lives have been profoundly affected by this disease to gather in a natural setting and learn the sport of fly fishing at no cost to them,” said Pam Stinson, Vice President of Marketing for WFN. “I’d like to encourage our angling audience to visit Casting for Recovery online, watch their videos and consider supporting this worthwhile cause.”

Casting for Recovery was founded in 1996 in Manchester, Vt. by a breast cancer reconstructive surgeon, Dr. Benita Walton, and a professional fly fisher, Gwenn Perkins. The program grants breast cancer survivors the opportunity to experience something new and challenging while enjoying beautiful surroundings within an intimate, safe and nurturing structure. Founded on the principles that the natural world is a healing force, Casting for Recovery has received endorsements from medical and psychosocial experts for its innovative healing program model.

Women at any age and stage of treatment and recovery from breast cancer are eligible to benefit from the Casting for Recovery experience in not only the United States and Canada, but the United Kingdom, Ireland and New Zealand as well. Weekend retreats, which promote healing for women at no expense to them, incorporate counseling, educational services and the opportunity to meet new friends while learning about fly fishing. Participants are provided with an experience that promotes coping and problem-solving skills while gaining self-esteem by learning news skills as a commitment to the future.
