I’ve been using the LifeProof Nϋϋd Case and Cover/Stand Bundle for a while now. I’m typically not rough on my electronics, but let’s face it, accidents happen. This case is like an insurance policy and offers extreme protection for your iPad. It will fit on the second, third or fourth generation iPad and for $129.99 you can get the case and cover/stand that will protect from water, snow, dirt and shock — like dropping it from a tree stand.
The case itself is a two-piece clam shell with an o-ring. It is not difficult to put it together, but you do need to be careful and patient making sure the o-ring is in place and you get the case snapped together all around the edges. Taking it apart can be easily done with the help of a coin at the two slots along the bottom edge.
While the case does increase the overall size of your iPad, I feel the benefits outweigh the slightly larger size. The case measures 10.4 inches tall, 8.2 inches wide and 0.8 inches thick. It weighs in at just shy of a pound.
The LifeProof Nϋϋd’s key protection features are:
Water proof — fully submerge underwater down to 6.6 feet
Snow proof — complete protection keeps ice and snow out
Dirt proof — totally sealed from minute dust particles
Shock proof — designed to military drop survivability specifications of four feet
Nϋϋd naked screen technology means just that, there is nothing between you and your screen. This means you don’t have any visibility or touch screen issues like some other cases with built-in screen protectors.
While it completely encases your iPad, all buttons and ports are accessible and useable. The charging port is easily accessed behind a hinged locking door. The large speaker port does not distort the sound, allowing you to get the most from your music and movies. A screw-in plug that is easily removed covers the headphone jack. It also comes with a headphone extender cable. The home button on the case works just as the home button on the iPad, as does the volume control. The sleep/wake button which is located on the top edge of your iPad, actually sits on the back of the LifeProof case due to the design.
The case also allows use of either the front or rear camera lenses. It does not cover the front-facing camera. A real glass lens that takes high quality images covers the rear-facing camera.
The only negative I have found is that if I want to hook my iPad up to the HDMI cable to use with my television I have to take it out of the case.
One of the accessories LifeProof offers for the Nϋϋd case is the LifeJacket. For those that want to take their iPad along when they’re on or around water. The LifeJacket ensures your iPad floats while it also increases the shock proof feature The LifeJacket retails for $59.99.
While we’re talking technology and the outdoors, another item I suggest is the Cyclops Dual USB power charger available at HERCAMOSHOP. If you find yourself outdoors and away from a power source, you can recharge with the Cyclops. It charges your cell phone, camera, tablet or MP3 player. If you’re like me and are hunting from dark to dark, you tend to run your battery down. The Cyclops can charge your cell phone up to five times on a single charge. It has two USB ports, 2.1 Amp and 1 Amp outputs, with intelligent charge protection. It’s lightweight, portable and features a battery capacity LED indicator.
The overall size is 2.5 inches by 4.5 inches by .75 inches and weighs a mere four ounces. It will fit easily in your pack without adding much weight or bulk.
Some hunters and outdoors enthusiasts go to the outdoors to get away from everything, i.e. email, computers, etc. For those of you that take their technology along on their treks to use some of those handy outdoor related apps, keep in touch or to use as a book reader, the LifeProof Nϋϋd Case and Cyclops are gear I highly recommend.
