Laura Torres-Reyes wins High Lady at IDPA Coastal Bend Challenge

Corpus Christi, TX—Team Smith & Wesson shooter Laura Torres-Reyes won High Lady honors April 3 at the International Defensive Pistol Association (IDPA) Coastal Bend Challenge at the Starry Shooting Range in Corpus Christi, Texas.

Torres-Reyes shot the match with her Smith & Wesson M&P Pro chambered in 9mm, achieving the high score of 199.34.

“It was a blast!” Torres-Reyes told The WON.

“This was an exciting, challenging match with unique stage designs, quick movers and complex courses of fire. They were especially creative with outstanding props that required strategic planning of shooting position. These were unforgiving if you forgot the basics of front sight and smooth trigger pull,” she added.

Torres-Reyes said that, for her, the most enjoyable aspect of the match was the opportunity to shoot with old pals. Among the competitors were Jim Tackett and Greg Kratchvil, good friends who first introduced her to IDPA shooting five years ago, at Laughlin Air Force Base in Texas.

“Their camaraderie and support helped me with some of the more difficult challenges, and guaranteed a day of pure, unadulterated fun. It was also great that my awesome husband, José Torres-Reyes, was able to shoot the match with me.”

Torres-Reyes offered her heartfelt thanks to Team Smith & Wesson for their “tremendous” sponsorship support, Atlanta Arms & Ammo for quality ammunition that “gave me the confidence of reliability” and Comp-Tac, for their quality holsters and magazine carriers.

“I also was fortunate to have attended a Competition II training class with Brandon Wright at the International Training Incorporated campus in West Point, Virginia, a week prior to the match. It was tremendously helpful in preparing me for the Coastal Bend Challenge,” she said.

Thank you all! Deb, the pants in the picture are Faded Glory RN # 19747 from Walmart. I haven’t been able to find them in the past year, and have substituted them for the Rampart Women’s Pant from Arcteryx.com.

I’m wondering, Laura. What is the brand of those pants you’re wearing? And, I’m telling you … the determination on your face speaks words and words … talk about being in the zone. Great photo, Yamil!
