Tulsa, Oklahoma (July 18, 2010) – Smith and Wesson shooter Jessie Abbate won the Women’s Open Amateur and Women’s Limited Amateur Titles at the Pro-Am event at the National Shooting Academy in Tulsa, Oklahoma. Abbate also finished second overall in Limited and third overall in Open. This marks Abbate’s 11th title of the shooting season.
The Pro-Am is a steel match with a simple scoring system. The raw score is the number of targets down on a stage after the competitor has fired the last shot. The stage score is the raw score minus any applicable penalties. The match score is the combined total of all stages. In the Limited Division, Abbate shot a score of 182 – good enough for second overall. In the Open Division, she shot a score of 185 – good for a third place overall.
Abbate said that the Pro-Am is a great match and is fun to shoot. “This match,” said Abbate, “is a lot of fun. It is quick, exciting, and presents different challenges in the area of steel shooting. This is a great match for shooters of all skill levels.” Abbate returned to the match this year as the defending women’s champion from 2009.
The Pro-Am title is Abbate’s third major championship of the 2010 shooting season (unless noted, all championships are Women’s titles). She started the season with championships in the Open ,Rimfire, and Limited and was the Steel Master at the Steel Nationals in Titusville, Florida in March. She followed that with a National Championship at the Bianchi Cup in May.
