Babbs in the Woods: On holidays and look who’s turning 1

barb-baird-out-standing-in-field3What a perfect weekend for Halloween. An almost-full moon, cool crisp air and lots of leaves on the ground here in the Ozarks. And now, with Halloween behind us, we look forward to the next big ticket on the calendar – Thanksgiving. In fact, we’ve gone a little nuts here at The WON with our logo design, thanks to Anne Goodrich, who will be happy to design a logo for your business, too.

I will turn the ceramic jack-o-lanterns around this week, so that they look like Thanksgiving pumpkin decorations. And no, I don’t leave my Christmas tree lights up all year, thank you.

In case you need some turkey decorating ideas, Karen Lee, editor of Turkey Country magazine, writes about “Turkey Day Activities for the Kids” at the online version of the new Turkey Country. I especially like the pinecone turkey craft.

And thinking about decorations, The WON turns one on Wed., Nov. 4. We’re not going to hold a birthday party online or anything, but be looking for some changes, including even more Gear Gals. According to our analytics reports, The WON is read by an international set, not just outdoor enthusiasts from the U.S., and this is exciting – to be able to spread the word past the industry media crowd, aka “the choir,” and into the worldwide chorus of female and male outdoor lovers. These are the “boots on the ground” sorts, the consumers and the reason we started in the first place with this publication.

Remember, you can submit your information about newsworthy items you want us to highlight here by going up to the top right in the menu bar, and hitting the “submit” button.

And, thanks for reading The WON.
