janegravatar1Steel. I shot two steel matches this month. It. Feels. Good. A Steelworkers match and a Steel Challenge match. PING. Many times over ping. Juiced up on a green smoothie, even in the wind and cold, I had a grand time. Read more

’48 Hours to Paradise’ Green Smoothie recipe

November 16, 2009 by Women's Outdoor News · 1 Comment

“48 Hours” can refer to the 1982 action comedy film, the CBS news and television magazine show, a song by The Clash, a fifth season episode of Stargate SG-1, and now, a ticket to paradise, compliments of The Green Smoothie Shooter.

48 hours is the perfect amount of time one needs … for so many things. Not too long, not too short, but juuuust right.

In this case, it takes 48 hours on green smoothies for my body to respond to the never ceasing wonder of fresh greens. Don’t forget to rotate ‘em! Read more

The Green Smoothie Shooter: What’s in a number?

October 25, 2009 by Women's Outdoor News · Leave a Comment

So, what’s in a number? Unless you’re number one, not much. The Green Smoothie Shooter has good news for you. Green leafies are the number one anti-aging food!

Fresh greens, like the ones I offer in my green smoothie recipes, such as spinach, kale, lettuces, chards, dandelion, collards, parsley, mint and green vegetables — including broccoli, asparagus, brussel sprouts, etc. — are the key to aging gracefully from the inside out. Read more

The Green Smoothie Shooter: Chocolate Dandelion!

October 6, 2009 by Women's Outdoor News · Leave a Comment

janegravatar1The apples are in! New, fresh crops of crisp, sweet, juicy apples. I bought 8 organic, Red Delicious apples, one bunch of dandelion and one bunch of parsley.

I juiced the apples at home and used 2 cups in this recipe, added half the bunches of parsley and dandelion. Whipped it up in my Vita-Mix and enjoyed the warming, literally bittersweet tones. That’s the thing about fresh, uncooked fruits and greens – each flavor shouts itself out into your mouth and can be tasted individually and then forms new flavors collectively. Read more

The Green Smoothie Shooter: This used to be a watermelon!

August 31, 2009 by Women's Outdoor News · Leave a Comment

janegravatar1For two years I have been throwing all of our fruit and veggie refuse into compost bins. I had this fantasy that that’s all I had to do and it would turn to compost, i.e., black garden gold.

Instead, it became a hard, dry mass of chunky-gunky avocado pits, frozen-in-time eggshells and watermelon rind paper. I blame this entirely on our 100-degree-plus weather and my total neglect and denial that I had to do anything to it. Read more

The Green Smoothie Shooter: BB’s ‘Bloody Mary’ Smoothie

August 17, 2009 by Women's Outdoor News · 2 Comments

janegravatar1Dear Green Smoothie Shooter, Do you think you could concoct a tomato-based smoothie that simulates a Bloody Mary, without the vodka? Just curious. ~BB

“I’m on it, BB.” And I’m all about the K.I.S.S. theory, too – keep it smoothie, simple”~Jane Read more

The Green Smoothie Shooter: A shoulder to lean on

August 4, 2009 by Women's Outdoor News · 2 Comments

janegravatar1Strength and power are two attributes I definitely need at the range. My gun provides the power and I contribute my mental strength (front sight, front sight, front sight), which I help along by packing a lettuce and banana green smoothie, a particularly potent combination of strength (greens) and power (potassium). Lettuce and bananas work for the great apes, and they work for me. Read more

Green Smoothie Shooter: Jane’s Summer Celebration Snack

July 14, 2009 by Women's Outdoor News · Leave a Comment

janegravatar1It hit 108 degrees here in southern Arizona this week. At 108 degrees, it’s bake-your-bones, cure-your-arthritis heat. If you eat, not only drink, high water content foods in this weather, 108 degrees can feel like a balmy evening breeze caressing your face, soft and inviting.

HOW? you may scream. Here’s how, and I know because I have lived here for 29 years. Not only do my green smoothies keep me nourished, hydrated and light on my feet, on and off the range, but they inspired my “cool as a cucumber” summer celebration snack. Read more

The Green Smoothie Shooter: Paige’s first green smoothie

June 28, 2009 by Women's Outdoor News · 2 Comments

janegravatar1Paige Eissinger wrote this to me the other day: “I just threw the ingredients into the blender with some ice cubes and turned it on. I’m sure the amount of ingredients would depend on how much smoothie someone’s planning to make. Here’s what I threw in to make enough for 2 small smoothies (about 2-1/2 cups):
