Guru Huntress: Eyeshield enhances optic performance of binos

Turkey season opens this month in many southern states and preseason preparations are well underway for most hunters. One vital task in preparation for a successful season is scouting: getting an idea of the normal pattern the birds travel each day.

Preseason scouting can put too much pressure on birds in their natural habitat if you are frequenting the area in a manner that the birds actually see the hunter; which, in turn, pushes the birds into another area with less disturbance. During preseason scouting, once birds are located, observing those birds from a distant location is the best way to not be seen by the birds. To do this, it is important to utilize a quality pair of binoculars.

When roosting birds, I have often witnessed those birds tree-hopping and I have stayed through sunset to get a good idea of where those birds were going to be at sunrise the next morning. Looking through my binoculars, usually into the tops of trees from a great distance and for an extended period of time, I often experience a glare or ghosting, making it hard to see clearly and causing eye fatigue.

This season, when I started my preseason scouting, I used a new product that not only stopped the glare and ghosting, it also improved the clarity and performance of my binoculars by not allowing ambient light in the objective lens. The product is EyeShield by Field Optics Research.

EyeShield is made exclusively for enhanced optic performance for any brand or size binoculars and is a binocular accessory designed to aid in enhancing the function of optics by dramatically improving the clarity through the objective lenses. The design fits comfortably over the user’s eyes and against the side of the head, sealing out ambient light for a crisp picture. The design also protects eyes from wind, rain and snow and eliminates peripheral distractions. EyeShield are made of weatherproof, high performance material that fit over the binoculars’ eye piece rings with a snug fit and can be conveniently folded down out of the way when not in use.
