My Job … My Outdoors: Photographer, falconer, mom and loving wife – Stacey Huston’s roles combine to make her an outdoor woman extraordinaire
August 18, 2009 by Women's Outdoor News
Stacey Huston is an outdoors woman to the core. She admits she would much rather spend time in the high country than in the local shopping mall, and feels more at home in heavy timber than in a salon. She is an accomplished photographer and is the staff photographer for Journey With Red Hawk TV series. Stacey is also a licensed falconer and raptor rehabilitation volunteer, helping injured raptors to once again soar on open skies. She resides with her husband of 18 years and their two boys in the mountains of western Wyoming.
My Job
For me this was a hard question to ponder. “What is my job?” To me, a job is something that you “HAVE” to do, and I believe that life is just too short to do something that you don’t enjoy. Therefore I don’t look at doing the things that I love as “jobs.”
But since I am required to give a description of my everyday adventures … here goes … family is very important to me.
First and foremost I am a wife and mother. Daughter to my parents and a friend to whomever will put up with me. I would say that my biggest success to date, would have to be my two children. I have been married to the same man for more than 18 years and together we have two fantastic boys, ages 17 and 11, who are the light of our lives and my fellow adventurers.
My husband and I work together and own a log home company. We restore historic log homes, make custom log siding, log replacement, staining and chinking, log mantles, stairways.
I am a wildlife photographer and enjoy every moment I can, getting the shot of wild creatures in the wild. I am also the staff photographer for the television show Journey with Red Hawk. I am very lucky to be able to work with the people that I love and be in the outdoors.
My outdoors
My entire life has included the outdoors. Growing up in the mountains of western Montana, I was very fortunate to have parents who always took the time to stop, and share with me the wonderful little miracles of nature. These moments helped to build in me a sacred connection, and a deep love and respect for all things outdoors – a connection that I hope we are helping to nurture in our own children.
I grew up and married the most amazing man, who shares my passion and longing for the outdoors. We now live in Wyoming, were we reside near the towering peaks of the Beartooth Mountains. Our two boys share these wild and majestic mountains, streams and hideaways with us.
I have been a licensed falconer for nine years and love flying red tail hawks, I am a sub-permittee for a wildlife rehab center, where I work with birds of prey, helping them to hunt and build strength so that they can one day be returned to the freedom of flight.
As a photographer I hope that I can share the true essence of the wild places through my photographs.
Family, friends and outdoor adventure are at the core of every excursion I take into the wild places. www.staceyhuston.com

Stacey and her family are the very essence of an out door family. She and her husband, Mike (Hawk) live their life as no others that I have ever known. They have managed to strike a perfect balance with modern times and nature’s bounty. The one aspect of her many efforts is the highest level of the bar in all that she does. Knowing the Hustons has enhanced our lives. a/ho Joe York
