Proís® Hunting Apparel partners with Primal Adventures TV to launch new ‘Extreme Huntress’ contest
July 30, 2009 by Women's Outdoor News · 1 Comment
Can you bring home the bacon? Do you tend to bring your bacon home the old fashioned way, by jumping on a 600 pound wild hog with a knife? Or perhaps you prefer to bring home the mutton, and your idea of a relaxing day of hunting might include scaling a mountain and battling altitude sickness while stalking a trophy sheep. Are you a real hunting Renaissance Woman with no fear and no limits in the field? Then you should enter a new contest that is right up your alley, so you can share your passion with the world.
Próis® Hunting Apparel is joining ranks with well known TV powerhouse Primal Adventures in a clarion call to the industry, kicking off an effort to discover the very first Extreme Huntress in a new national competition. Each contestant can submit an essay and photos demonstrating that she is the most hardcore huntress of them all. A panel of hunting industry celebrity judges will select the top 10 finalists, which will be posted on the Tahoe Films Ltd. website, so the hunting public can then judge the entries to select the winner.
“We were thrilled to be able to participate in a contest that will celebrate the contributions of serious women hunters, and create excitement and awareness in the industry,” says Kirstie Pike, CEO of Próis. “We can’t wait to hear the stories! It’s bound to be a tough competition.”
The grand prize (in addition to the considerable bragging rights the title will infer) will include a high profile, all expenses paid sheep and mountain goat combination hunt in British Columbia, and will be fully outfitted in Próis’ high performance hunting gear, along with a slew of other great equipment. The hunt itself will be filmed for a future episode of Primal Adventures on Versus, with the total value of the grand prize package at more than $50,000. The winner will be announced at the Próis booth at the 2010 SHOT Show.
“This contest will be an annual competitive event to not only applaud the amazing women who get out there and really go for it in the field, but to create authentic role models in our industry,” says Tom Opre of Primal Adventures. “It’s widely acknowledged that women will be playing a major role in the future of hunting and shooting sports, and we want to show that there are a lot of women out there who just kick butt, and thus are the “present” of hunting, too!”

Alpen partners with National Breast Cancer Foundation to donate proceeds from pink binos

In January, 2009, Alpen Optics introduced its new Alpen Pink 263P 8x 25 compact and Alpen Pink 393P 10×42 full-size binocular. Alpen has partnered up with the National Breast Cancer Foundation (NBCF) and a portion of the profit of each binocular sold will go the NBCF to help focus on the cure for breast cancer. “Pink is the color most associated with breast-cancer research,” says Vickie Gardner, vice president of Alpen Optics. “Our new line of Alpen Pink is more than just a pink binocular. With more than 40,000 Americans dying each year of breast cancer (400,000 worldwide), Alpen Optics has created its Pink binoculars to help focus on a cure, while delivering the best binocular for the best price in the marketplace.”
The Alpen Pink 263P 8×25 binocular is very affordable at about $60. Features include:
* Compact body design for ease of use and transport.
* 8x magnification to bring objects up close.
* Wide 430-foot field of view for panoramic viewing.
* Multi-coated BAK4 optics to provide crisp and bright images.
* Ergonomic rubber coverings for holding comfort.
* Carrying case, neck strap and lens-cleaning cloth.
* Alpen’s lifetime warranty.
The Alpen Pink 393P 10×42 binocular costs $200. Features include:
* 10x magnification that brings objects up close.
* 42mm objective lens with fully multi-coated, phase coated, BAK4 optical design to provide a super-sharp and bright image.
* Fully rubber armored for holding comfort and shock resistance.
* Long eye relief eye piece design with twist-up eye cups for eye glass wearers.
* O-ring sealed to provide fully waterproof and fogproof performance in any weather condition.
* Soft rubber eyepiece rainguard, rubber objective lens covers, carrying case and wide neck strap as standard accessories.
* Alpen’s lifetime warranty.
The green version of this binocular -model 390- won the ‘Great Buy’ award as seen in the 2008 Outdoor Life magazine gear test issue. “The Alpen family was touched by breast cancer when our 27-year-old niece lost her battle with breast cancer 9-years ago, and Alpen Pro Staffer, Sheri Runge, mother of two, won her battle with breast cancer this year,” explains Gardner. “We’d like to do all we can to help the NBCF focus on the cure with the introduction of our Alpen Pink binoculars. We’ll sell the Alpen Pink to hunters, fishermen, back yard birders, attendees at sports events and to anyone who wants to join our efforts to focus on a cure.” By purchasing Alpen Pink, you’ll not only demonstrate you’ve chosen the very best for your dollars spent, but you’ll also take a firm stand against the disease that’s causing havoc in so many American families today. According to Gardner, “We, at Alpen, are taking a stand with the NBCF by focusing on the cure with our pink binoculars. Alpen encourages you to think pink when picking out binoculars this season. We also hope to inspire more companies in our industry to become involved in focusing on the cure for breast cancer.” For more information about Alpen Pink binoculars, visit www.alpenoutdoor.com or www.alpenoptics.com, or call 877-987-8370.

Show your support for breast cancer research with every cast
July 29, 2009 by Women's Outdoor News · Leave a Comment
This month, a shade away from pink, the color lavender brings in research dollars for not only breast cancer, but also cancer that afflicts women’s lungs, skin and reproductive areas. Thanks to Angie Michaels and her online fishing store at FishHer.com, three rods tout the “FishHer 4A Cure” button embedded in the grip. You may purchase this rod as a spinning version in two lengths: either 6 feet or 5 feet, 6 inches. The casting rod measures 5 feet, 6 inches. All the rods include non-corrosive holographic first and tip guides, and a spare rod tip.
Michaels established FishHer 4A cure so that anglers may coordinate fishing tournaments to raise funds for cancer research. See the website, or contact Michaels at 402-290-7714 or angie at fishHer.com.
