May 13, 2009 by Nancy Jo Adams

nancyjoadamsgravatarWith turkey season upon the southern states and quickly approaching for the rest of the country, now is the time to be thinking about making that prized diaphragm call last through the season. Since diaphragm calls are used in the mouth, they rapidly build bacteria once they are exposed to air. It is important to properly sanitize and store your calls, not only for the benefit of a longer lasting call; but more importantly for your health.

Spring, unlike any other season of the year, with its high pollen output, is when the majority of hunters experience sinus infections, allergies, hay fever and other upper respiratory ailments. The germs and infection carrying bacteria live in the saliva of your mouth. Repeatedly inserting, removing and storing your calls in little boxes makes the idea environment for rapidly growing bacterial buildup.

There is a new system that not only extends the life of your calls, it also sanitizes your calls and leaves them minty fresh. This system is the Diaphresh Diaphragm Call Freshening System. With this system you will eliminate gummed-together reeds and bacteria build-up extending the life of your calls. The system insures a fresh call that is always ready to use for optimum call performance as soon as you place the call in your mouth because the reeds are not stuck together.

The rugged and unique water tight case with the built-in reed separators eliminates using toothpicks, paperclips or other items to separate your reeds that can possibly damage your calls. This sleek case can be used to store your calls in and out of the field and is also used for the sanitizing of your calls.

The Diaphresh system employs a minty fresh solution that is an alcohol-free, witch hazel based liquid rinse. The system is easy to use by racking the reeds and snapping the call into the lid, adding one ounce of the rinse to the line in the reservoir, turning the case upside down and gently shaking for several seconds. After thoroughly bathing the calls in the solution, you turn the case right side up, open the reservoir, and empty the solution. A quick rinse with plain water removes the rinse residue leaving the call clean and minty fresh. The system is also idea for storing your calls in between seasons. You can rinse the calls and store the container in the refrigerator to inhibit bacteria growth.

The Diaphresh Diaphragm Call Freshening System has a MSRP of $19.95 per kit and can be purchased from your local sporting goods store or online. You can read more about the system and how it is used to store your calls after season; as well as order online at www.diaphresh.com.
